Perfect Technique

You have perfect technique if:

  • You sound exactly how you want to sound and
  • You’re not injuring yourself

Your listeners will think you have perfect technique if:

Not sure I agree 100% with what you say about satisfying listener’s tastes. I feel like I can identify a technically proficient musician (pianist anyways) even if he/she doesn’t play music I enjoy.

That doesn’t disprove the proposed criteria. If the above criteria is met, then the result has to be perfect technique.

I also noticed that you used technically ‘proficient.’ That’s a great term for describing music you don’t think is wholly enjoyable, or perfect.
