My previous post on measuring technique inspired the following thoughts.
- Technique is the method by which we create something
- You can’t create music without a method
- The more difficult it is to replicate, the more complex an artist’s method.
- A complex method doesn’t necessarily create meaningful music.
- Replicating an artist’s method isn’t always desirable.
- Artists who are good at replicating other artists’ methods have (almost) equal technique.
- Artists with complex methods aren’t necessarily good at replicating other artists’ methods.
- Artists with poor technique can’t fully replicate or realize their concept.
- Artists with good technique can consistently replicate or realize their concept.
- Listeners find varying levels of meaning in method and music…deal with it!!
